Vijayawada: The Commercial Taxes Department of Andhra Pradesh on Monday announced the successful implementation of transformative initiatives to simplify taxation processes and ensure a conducive environment for businesses and taxpayers.
Officials said Monday marked a significant milestone as the first GST Seva Kendram, was inaugurated at No. I Division, Vijayawada. To counter fake GST registrations exploiting economically vulnerable individuals, the APCT Department has launched the Aadhaar-based biometric registration project named GST Seva Kendram.
This initiative uses biometric Aadhaar authentication and data analytics to filter out fraudulent entries during registration. To enhance accessibility, 12 GST Seva Kendras have been strategically established across Andhra Pradesh.

Pant, Chief Commissioner of Customs and Indirect Taxes, Dheeraj Rastogi, Executive Vice President of GSTN, M. Girija Shankar, Chief Commissioner of State Tax, M. Abhiskith Kishore, Joint Commissioner (ST), No. I Division and other senior officers from both State and Central Governments. The inaugural event signified a crucial step forward in reinforcing the effectiveness of the project in safeguarding the integrity of GST registrations in AP.
Responding to the dynamic tax landscape, the Commercial Taxes Department has realigned its vision, mission, values, and goals. Core values include building trust, encouraging voluntary compliance, and fostering integrity with taxpayers. This strategic vision sets a high standard for sustained excellence in handling tax matters.

This valuable repository enhances officials’ ability to navigate tax matters efficiently, emphasising transparency, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Later Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath distributed incentive awards to the meritorious officers. He said the initiatives taken by the department will ensure tax-conducive environment.
According to officials, the gross collections o commercial taxes f in AP till November saw remarkable progress with a substantial 31 per cent growth compared to last year. Collections increased from Rs.3,134 crore to Rs.4,093 crore showcasing robust growth. Among other States, AP has emerged as a leader, surpassing the growth rates of Karnataka (17 per cent), Tamil Nadu (20 per cent), Telangana (18 per cent), Kerala, (20 per cent), and Odisha (3 per cent).
GST revenue (without compensation)- FY 2023-24 reached Rs.21,180.57 crore up to November 2023, achieving 90 per cent of the targeted goal. There is substantial growth of 17.14 per cent compared to last year’s Rs.18,080.69 crore indicating a positive momentum in GST collections. Effectiveness of revenue generation strategies have paid off.
